LOUIS | | | | | | | St. Louis Storytelling Festival | | | | | Description: Sponsored by the University of Missouri-St Louis, this wonderful festival gathers storytellers from all over the country to perform at various venues throughout the city. Master storytellers spin classic tales, ghost stories, oral histories, and poems. Themes include folk tales, ethnic and ancient traditions, humorous tomes, nature, and stories told in sign language. Locations include libraries, parks, recreation centers, and even the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Free concerts spotlight both nationally known performers and local bands, such as Jo Dee Messina, Pat Benatar, and the Beach Boys. Other events include air shows, 3K and 10K runs, storytellers, crafts, and fireworks, along with a popular barbecue competition. The Veiled Prophet Parade (one of St Louis' oldest events) takes place on the 4th of July.
